If you are watching a video or playing a song and there is no sound it’s infuriating. In this guide, I will tell you How to Fix Realtek Digital Output No Sound Issue. I also had a similar issue and spent a lot of time learning how to fix it. It took me 10 hours to find the right solution. So I decided to write about it. I hope it saves your time.

The methods listed below will help you resolve the problem.

There are 6 options for resolving the issue. You can try each one at a time until the problem is resolved.

Method 1 – Make Speakers/Headphones the default device

Realtek Digital Output Devices are high-definition digital audio devices such as a TV, a home theatre system, etc. Typically, these devices are connected to the computer via a digital cable rather than an analog one.

Regular speakers/headphones, on the other hand, must be connected to the computer via analog wires. If you designate the Realtek Digital Output as the default output device in this scenario, the sound will not work properly.

To resolve the issue, change the default output device to Speakers / Headphones.
To do so, follow these steps:

1) To open the Run box, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key at the same time) on your keyboard.

2) In the Run box, type ‘control panel’ and press OK to launch the Control Panel window.

3) Go to View by Category and select Hardware and Sound.

4) Select Sound.

5) Go to the Playback tab. Then, choose the ‘Speakers / Headphones’ device and click Set default to make it the default device.

6) To save the changes, click OK.

Method 2 – Install the audio driver again

Step 1 : Removing Driver

Method 1

Make sure you have a backup of your system. If you have a backup, you can restore your system to the previous working state. If you don’t have a backup, you can create one now.

Step 1. Open the Start menu, type Control Panel, and click the Control Panel app.

Step 2. Click on the Uninstall a program option under the Programs category. This will open a list of all programs installed on your system.

Step 3. Look for the Realtek HD Audio Manager Driver, and click the Uninstall button.

Step 4. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the uninstall process.

Method 2 

Step 1. Press the Windows key and the X key at the same time, then select Device Manager.

Step 2. Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers by clicking on them.

Step 3. Right-click on the sound card driver and then click Uninstall.

Step 4. If the system prompts you for a confirmation, click OK.

Step 2 : Installing Driver

Method 1 : Automatic Update

The Automatic Update option is the easiest method. It is recommended for users who are not good at computer operations. You can choose one of the two Automatic Update Methods below:

Update Realtek HD Audio Manager Drivers Automatically Using Windows Update

Step 1. Open Device Manager by pressing the Windows + R keys, type ‘devmgmt.msc’ into the Run box, and click OK.

Step 2. Right-click Sound, video, and game controllers.

Step 3. Click on “Scan for Hardware Changes”

Windows will automatically install the latest version of the Realtek driver.

Method 2 : Download the latest driver

Download the latest drivers for your Realtek HD Audio Manager from the official website.

Step 1. Go to this link.

Step 2. Click on the Download button.

Step 3. Choose Run or Save.

Step 4. The Self-Extracting window appears.

Step 5. Click OK.

Step 6. The process will start extracting the files to the hard drive.

Step 7. After the process is completed, go to the folder where the file was extracted.

Step 8. Click on the setup file.

Step 9. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the installation process.

Step 10. You must follow the instructions that will be displayed on your screen.

Step 11. When you are finished, you must restart your computer.

Method 3 : Manually update Realtek HD Audio Manager Drivers

Step 1. Go to Device Manager by pressing the Windows + R keys, type “devmgmt.msc” into the Run box, and click OK.

Step 2. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.

Step 3. Right-click Realtek HD Audio Manager and then click Update driver.

Step 4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

This will automatically update your Realtek driver. If it doesn’t then repeat the above process and instead of clicking ‘ Search automatically for updated driver software’ Choose

Step 4. Choose “Browse my computer for driver software”.

Step 5. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Step 6. Click High Definition Audio Controller.

Step 7. Click Next.

Step 8. Click Yes.

Step 9. The driver is now updated.

Make sure you are installing the correct version of the driver.
To check the correct version of Realtek HD audio software, perform the following step.

Step 1: Click Start.

Step 2: Right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

Step 3: At the left pane, click Device Manager.

Step 4: Double-click the Sound, video, and game controllers category.

Step 5: Double-click Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

Step 6: Click the Driver tab.

Step 7: Check Driver Version.

Enable Realtek Audio Manager at Startup

Right-click on the Start button and launch the Task Manager.

Go to the Startup section.

Look for the Realtek HD Audio Manager.

If the status is Disabled, right-click it and select Enable from the drop-down menu.

Restart the system

Rollback Realtek driver to the previous version

If you tried to manually update the driver for your Realtek high definition audio device, the incompatible driver you downloaded is most probably causing issues. As a result, roll back the driver to resolve the issue. Here are the actions you must take to accomplish this.

  • Display the Device Manager on the screen.

  • Select the Sound, video, and gaming controllers category.
  • Right-click the Realtek high definition audio device and select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Drivers tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.
  • To complete the rollback, click OK and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Restart your computer.

Disable the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio

Expand the System Devices section in the Device Manager.

Look for Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio.

Right-click it and select Disable from the drop-down menu.

Navigate to Apps & Features in Windows Settings.

Uninstall the driver by clicking on Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

Now go to Device Manager and right-click on the deactivated Microsoft driver.

From the drop-down option, select Uninstall.

After that, reinstall the Realtek HD Audio Driver.

Turning Off Audio Enhancements

You may check if Realtek high definition audio isn’t working in Windows 10 by disabling the audio improvement functionality. This function is intended to improve the performance of your sound card, however, it is not compatible with all sound cards.

As a result, it is recommended that you disable the Audio Enhancement Feature by following the procedures below:

  1. The Control Panel window should now be open. To launch the run box, press the Windows key and R at the same time, then type ‘control’ and press the Enter key.
  2. As shown in the figure, select the ‘View by Large Icons’ option and then Sound.
  3. Right-click on the Default Device in the Playback tab and select Properties.

Add Legacy hardware

Go to Device Manager by pressing the Windows + R keys, type “devmgmt.msc” into the Run box, and click OK.

Select the Action tab.

From the drop-down box, search for and choose Add legacy hardware.

Select the radio option for Search for and install hardware automatically by clicking the Next button (Recommended).

Check Cable Connection And Volume

If your cable connection is loose, then also you may get a Realtek high definition audio controller not working. Check that all of your speaker and headphone connectors are correctly attached and are not plugged into the wrong jack or are loose.

Check that the power and volume controls are turned on. The headphones are properly plugged in; nevertheless, the speakers may not operate if the headphones are plugged in.

If you check the cable connection and volume control, you should be able to hear the sound; if not, move on to alternative solutions.
